Uppercase and lowercase letter matching
Children usually learn capital letters first, then spend months untangling their lowercase partners. Letters like b/d, p/q and a/g are genuinely confusing because they differ only in orientation or shape, not sound.
Matching them as a memory game gives repeated, low-pressure exposure. Each flip is another chance to say the letter name and its sound out loud, and the pairing itself makes the uppercase-lowercase relationship explicit.
Start with a handful of easy letters (S, O, T, M) plus one tricky pair. Shuffle for a new selection whenever the deck feels stale.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I choose which letters appear?
- Press 'Shuffle cards' for a new random selection, or use the custom generator to type an exact letter list.
- Do the cards show both cases?
- Each pair is one uppercase card and one lowercase card, so children must connect the two forms.
- Can I use it for handwriting practice?
- Yes — many teachers have children trace each matched letter on a whiteboard before keeping the pair.
